as far as i am aware it doesn't affect perfomance except for the AA adjustment that can be turned off.
Generally this mod lets you control: colours,sharpness,some kind of AA( FXAA i think), each of these can be turned on/off.

have you tried disabling Vsync or reducing shadow quality? they help a lot imo.

well without the mod it seemed colourless to me , plus it had this blueish layer on walls/rocks that i hate
